| Whilst waiting for answers one way or another I have over the last few days been putting together a few of the smaller items that need doing to the boat before it is painted. With regards painting, after consultation, the Maude Pickup will be painted light blue upper hull, and white under, where as the William and Laura will be painted Oxford Blue above boot topping, and either black or dark green under anti fouling, as she was painted both colours in her lifetime............I think grean will be colour of choice. And onto what I have done over the last few days. First was the signalling/running light at the fore peak.........a simple construction of brass/copper tube, with a small 1.8mm ply plate with holding brackets of brass glued to it. the small hooks to hang the lamp onto are from fittings to the Anne Letitia Russell, and small brass rigging eyes. the upper fixing bracket is from the hand rails to the Rother class lifeboat, and the base socket is from a fitting I made for the Mary Stanford ( I think.???) Why make new ones from scratch when similar ones will do??......... I ain't a rivet counter so modellers licence comes to help here. |

| next job was to cut slots into the mizzen boom for sheet rollers.................sadly this went totally wrong on the first one, as I was using a none too sharp drill bit, and it bounced off a harder vain of the grain in the timber and ended up going out a bit squiffey................so had to make a wedge from some scrap douglas fir and drive it in to the hole I'd made.....glued with 24 hour epoxy it sanded off nicely..................will attempt it again tomorrow with a nice sharp bit.............. |

| and the last two little jobs ( and it's amazing how long all these little jobs take when getting a boat ready for painting before adding fittings) were to fit the anchoring eye bolts for mast rigging and make a blank for the bow pudding . The anchorings were first drilled and then tapped with a3mm tap and the rigging eyes, made some time ago were screwed into the grp mouldings and glued with cyano. The bow pudding blank which has been left to cure before sanding was made from a lump of milliput and held in place till set |

| Looking really good it's amazing the difference when you put the first coat of primer on a model. |

| It is Damien......they change character most dramatically, and then you begin to see them as they are meant to be, rather than lumps of grp and wood/plastics. Last night I Sprayed the tops , again with grey etching primer to give good adhesion for the later colours, and then sprayed both boats with filler primer......gave this 3 coats over the afternoon, and have now left it to dry and cure until tonight. I used stopper putty to fill any deeper scratches, as most sanding scratches have now been filled with the primer filler Will leave that a day until tomorrow and then commence wet and drying the boat all over before another grey primer for the darker colours and a white primer for the end box tops. |

| I'm not known for my patience when painting....... but having said that, I do take time masking up...........and I use low and normal tack "frog" tape...is expensive, but it does what it says on the label...........and doesn't allow any creep under the tape of paint.........it's well worth the extra dosh for a roll. So now I have applied the upper hull colours.......first was the sailing boat, which came in a light blue colour when built in 1893 and so have tried to replicate that with Halfords "Ford Bermuda light Blue" which I personally think is a near match from contemporary paintings and washed coloured postcards/photos, and so will keep that colour. The other boat, the motor sailor, which was cuilt in 1910 came in a darker blue, but lighter than the later Oxford Blue...........so I painted that in "Ford Isis Blue", Once these colours have cured I'll hand paint the belting with the Humbrol gloss red that I use. |

| I'm beginning to realise just how much building work there was in these two boats and it is only now when I can see the end, that I have decided to give lifeboats a rest for now........and have lined up a nice ferry to build next, for my daughter |

| A couple of weeks ago I bought some white calico cotton sheet...probably about 3 metres square in total, from a car boot sale............for my lifeboat sails.......£1.50 in total. I have also been collecting the threads for the rigging in different diameters for Bolt ropes, sheets, Halliards and Brail and today decided to pre shrink them all. first the threads were placed in boiling water to shrink them, and then into salted cold water to shrink and set the colourd "ropes" for a final time. the sheet of calico was placed into the washing machine and given a pre colouring wash before placing in the machine again on top of the Duylon Teracotta shade dye and a pound of salt, to both colour and shrink the sheet, on a 40 cotton wash..........they are all now out on the washing line to dry over night....... hopefully when they are now stitched up with the threads added, there will be no further shrinkage to ruffle and crimp the sails. |

| the same treatment has been given now to the sailing lifeboat. both boats have been cleaned up now that the rudder travel has been sorted, and today I fitted the thwarts and their brackets to the sailing lifeboat. The thwarts above the access hatch had to be cut so that the hatch could be lifted out, and I am planning to fit my crew men over the joint on this to hide it. Tomorrow will be a time of fitting the foot boards for the rowing crew and a few other jobs to both boats......working inexorably towards the rigging of them.also photographed are the pulley wheels that I bought and which will be attached to the rudder for the rig to the servo. |

| It was just very odd when posting photos last night amigo. kept repeating some and omitting others......gave up in the end. will try some now.. A job that has needed to be done but I either kept forgetting or kept putting off has been done today..........even bought some allen headed stanless steel bolts at 3mm dia, long enough to do the job in Lancaster the other day so have no more excuses left........and that was to fit the brass drop keels to both boats. An easy task.........just drilled through the keel, attached the draw rope to the top of the keel and the job was done..........the hardest job was feeding a brass wire through the keel box from the top of the boat to attach the draw rope to.........and that took only seconds in itself. I was truly relieved to see just how quickly the job went. the end of the draw rope which attached to the keel was protected by some heat shrink to stop chaffing. |

| sorry matey.......it's doing it again.....will only alow one print onto the post and then repeats all the others with the first picture............so it ends up a post of repeated pics.
will see if it sorts itself out in a day or two. neil......until then if anyone wants to watch the build it'll be on mayhem,. |

| Looking Great Neil, sorry not been about last few weeks, busy in the work shop.. not doing the right things apparently o.o issue with the photos uploading? hmm let me look into it for you.. I've just noticed they have upgraded the forums thread system, this might be a glitch in the new system... Can you let me know if your using the Forums photo host , or your own personal one (flickr, Photobucket etc..) this will help me narrow down the issue. | Ah well its supposed to be a boat.... but its a total hash fail..... i recently got a new electric fret saw, and i swear the material i'm using is of sub standard quality, either that or i need more practise using the tool...either way i'll work it out..
can you let me know your exact issue your having with the photo uploads and if your using the forums own host or a personal one. this will help me narrow down the issue to get a fix done.

RR
well for a start RR, I have just tried to answer your question by pressing the quote and then writing under the quote by tabbing down but it won't allow this, only allows me to add on to the end of your quote.....which is unusual.
as for posting pictures, I go through the normal process as I have used since you set up the posting method.....and once I have put on the fists photo and pressed review, it prints the picture onto the preview instead of the normal url text, and them won't let me put my curser at the bottom of the picture which now shows on the posting ( instead of the url text) and tab down to post the next photo url. the system seams to be blocking multi photos from my end at least.
